"In recent days, criminal gangs have launched attacks in the urban area of Rio de Janeiro. This is the most often aggressions against buses and cars (in some cases parking) that are burned. There have been occupants of vehicles were also stripped of their property or injured by the vehicle fire.
It appears that these atrocities are committed in response to the political authorities of Rio de Janeiro police building in the favelas. These attacks give rise to violent confrontations between gangs and police, particularly around some of the favelas. One can expect that the violence continues in the coming days, especially during the weekend.
It is therefore advisable to French citizens or residents to restrict passage their movements and avoid, wherever possible, to visit areas in the north and west of Rio de Janeiro and the municipalities of Duque de Caxias, and São João de Meriti.
Although areas of Rocinha and Vidigal to have remained quiet until now, it should be cautious around these two districts.
